Kraslava Plater`s palace and park

Introduction
The development of Kraslava town initially was connected with the name of count Ludwig Plater, who purchased Kraslava in 1729 for his possession.
Nowadays it is impossible to imagine Kraslava without built in Plater’s period main buildings such as Kraslava castle, Roman Catholic Church, Library buildings and Water Mills.

Location place
The complex of count Plater’s castle is situated in Pils street 2, 4, 6,8,10, in Kraslava. It occupies the area of 14, 43 ha. The estate complex includes the romantic picturesque park on the Daugava valley-side slope. The park was created in the middle of the 18-th century. It is
Famous for its overseas trees and bushes, staircase, view sites and painterly created grotto.

Status
The complex of Kraslava castle with the park and park architecture is the 18-th century landmark of the state importance (No.6321)
Accordingly to LR Cabinet of Ministers decree No.55 on January 29, 2004
the complex was given over to local government property and registered in land registration book (Land registration certificate was issued on 06.04.2005)
Currently in reality only the building on Pils street 8 is functional. It houses Kraslava town history and art museum .The unique and so beautiful in the past count Plater residence is in state of failure and can be observed only from outside.

Vision
Kraslava Plater’s castle complex is Kraslava cultural historical centre, Kraslava and Latgale region pride, widely attended and popular cultural, educational and tourism site.

In 5 years time-2011 the Kraslava castle park is popular well kept and safe place for rest in all seasons for tourists and local residents. The pathways, fence, gates, stairways are put in order, and minor architectural forms such as benches, swings, ash-bins are set. According to the approved park maintenance plan old trees are cut and new ones are planted. Park illumination and estrade are arranged.


In 10 years time-by 2016 the Kraslava castle and other castle complex buildings
acquire new appearance- building reconstruction is done and the adjacent territory is refined. The castle complex is the venue of continuous events- of national and international levels: cultural, educational, festivals, sport activities. The tourism information centre, museum, showrooms, artistic studios, presentation halls operate and are actively attended. Private sector is intensively engaged.
